Overview of Fall Ball

Divisions of Play
MPTLL offers Fall baseball and softball divisions similar to the Spring with one exception noted below.  Baseball is available to players from 4 to 16 years old, while softball teams are available at 8u and older.

In the Fall, our traditional National League and Major League Spring divisions are replaced with a 9-10 year old league and an 11-12 year old league.

Important Note:  Please note that Little League ages “roll forward” in the Fall.  This means that player ages are determined as of August 31st of the following year for all baseball divisions and December 31st of the current year for all softball divisions.  Visit the Little League Age Determination page for the official charts.

Teams will be assembled around the third or fourth week of August (after the completion of registration).

Practices generally begin the week before Labor Day weekend.

Games will start shortly thereafter and all play typically concludes at end of October.

A typical week includes 1-2 practices and 1-2 games, depending on the number of teams per division.  Younger divisions will have a lighter schedule.

We understand that many players also participate in other sports during the Fall.  As such, our Fall Ball leagues are generally more relaxed than the Spring.  No official standings are kept and there is no postseason play.  This is a great time for existing players to get meaningful repetitions (especially for those moving up a level of play) and for new players to try out the sport in a more developmental setting.  Our only request is for parents to be upfront and honest with the league and their coach about expectations for the season.

Q:  Are there tryouts?
A:  No.  Team assignments will be made by the league commissioners in an effort to create balanced teams, especially at the older age groups where pitching and catching is important.

Q:  How many teams comprise a typical Fall season?
A:  MPTLL is fortunate to have a very robust Fall season.  In recent years, we have fielded 50+ teams across softball and baseball.

Q:  Can I request specific teams or teammates?
A:  Yes (and no).  At the lower age groups (T-ball, Coach Pitch and American League) we will do our best to accommodate requests, within reason and as long as those requests do not create an unfair competitive advantage.

Q:  If my child was placed on an 11-12 year old baseball team, will he/she stay with that team or be drafted the next Spring?
A:  The 11-12 year old Fall Ball division is comprised of returning Major League players (from the prior Spring) and all other 11-12 year olds registered for the Fall.  All teams are comprised of experienced ML players and those that have not played ML before.

Current ML players that choose to play in the Fall will stay together with their existing ML teammates on a Fall Ball team and then rejoin their full ML team the next Spring.

As noted above, players that did not participate in the Spring ML will be placed on the various teams alongside returning ML players.  These players do not automatically qualify for the ML the following Spring, but will be eligible to join ML teams if they are selected after Spring evaluations per Little League rules.
